As a result, we wanted to uncover what the UK workforce really think about working for them â€" and what they want from their next role.So we surveyed over 800 jobseekers to find out:The perks of startup culture A good company culture was cited as one of the biggest pulling factors for joining a startup.The usual job search considerations also came up â€" such as salary, personal growth and promotion opportunities â€" but startups promise a new kind of working environment, one tha t’s still relatively new to many jobseekers and extremely appealing.Four out of ten stated that they crave responsibility and ownership in their role, rather than Instagram-worthy office perks. Other benefits cited included the ability to work closely with innovators and visionaries, and faster career progression.Generation gap?Millennials aren’t the only generation interested in startups.All age groups we surveyed expressed some interest in working for one â€" although our motivations do seem to differ slightly as we get older.While learning and development opportunities are the main considerations for those under 40 when applying for a role (66%), our research has shown that the majority of those over 40 are more concerned with the reputation and culture of the organisation (74%)Job security a concernThe flexibility and dynamism that goes hand in hand with startup life is undoubtedly appealing â€" but they can be a cause of concern for some.38% of jobseekers cited a potential lack of job security and career stability as their main worry about making the move from a more established company.  Where to find startup roles28% of jobseekers don’t know where to look for startup vacancies.The majority cited job sites as the first place they look for a new role, beating both search engines and social networks to the top spot.And, perhaps more shockingly, most jobseekers aren’t even aware if they’ve applied for a vacancy with a startup, because the advert hasn’t highlighted it. But candidates are aware of the success stories.Some of the most well-known and successful startups identified as desirable to work for were Uber, Airbnb and Deliveroo.The majority would take a pay cutFinally, 60% would be willing to take a pay cut if it meant working for a startup they were passionate about.And, when it comes to actually making the move, those who are most likely to apply for a startup roles are currently earning between £25k and £40k.But whatever their level, o ur research suggests that jobseekers have never been more receptive to startup life. Let’s have a look some established careers that pay well. Accountant Accounting is a very old profession that has changed over the years. Decades ago, accountants only took care of bookkeeping, but now they offer a lot of other services as well. Accountants today have to work on computers using sophisticated software that make the job easier and fun as well. There are about 1.25 million accountants actively working in the US today, making about $25 per hour, averaging $50,000 per year. The number is expected to reach 3.44 million by 2022, as more and more people are now choosing this profession due to its perks. Dentist This is one of the most highly-paid professions in the US. The amount you make as a dentist depends largely on your experience, skills, and the state you work in. Additionally, the services you offer also get to determine how much you make, since certain procedures are more profitable than others. For example, dentists offering    services for dentures earn more than dentists offering just typical dentistry services, such as teeth whitening and cleaning. And theres always folks searching for dentures Calgary, or dentures New York, or just about anywhere. Dentists today make about $230,000 per year, but you can even make half a million after a few years in the business. Doctor/Surgeon This is a big field today as there are many kinds of doctors. You can decide to be a child specialist (pediatrician), an eye surgeon (ophthalmologist), a heart specialist (cardiologist) or a skin specialist (dermatologist) among other options. The amount of money you make depends largely on what you specialize in. For examples, eye surgeons make about $400,000 per year, but heart surgeons make about $550,000. While it is a great career, you need years before you are able to make any decent money as a doctor since it involves four years of MBBS, then residency, followed by four years of specialization. Lawyer The number of criminals is sadly increasing, but so are the number of lawyers. There are about 450,000 attorneys actively working in the US right now. There are various fields of law. You can find criminal lawyers, mercantile lawyers, etc.   People need    Syracuse medical malpractice lawyers    as much as they do estate planning lawyers in Los Angeles.   The amount of money you make depends on several factors, including your skills, experience, the state you practice in and the kind of services you offer. Lawyers typically charge hourly rates that average around $60, making about $130,000 per year. Engineer Engineering is a very popular field, not just in the US but around the world. There are about 1.6 million engineers in the US, with a large percentage being mechanical, industrial, and civil engineers. The amount of money you make depends on your specialization again. For example, electrical engineers make about $90,000 per year, but mechanical engineers make only about $80,000. However, the good thing is that there are so many fields of engineering, you can always find a field of your interest.

Do Video Resumes Really Add to Your Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career “I’m thinking about hiring a guy to do a video resume for me” one of my senior executive clients said recently to me in a career coaching session. These days 91% of successful coaching is done via the telephone, and that was the case now, I was on the phone with my client; It was a good thing too because my jaw dropped as I quickly organized my thoughts like papers in file that had just fallen on the floor. Questions about fads and trends have become commonplace over the years but this one, from a client of this caliber, caught me as much by surprise as the slap Chantal O. gave Brad Womack on premiere night of The Bachelor this season. Let’s just say neither Brad nor I saw this one coming (and she’s got a heck of a right hook). Are video resumes getting this much attention? Do video resumes get attention? Put yourself in the shoes of today’s corporate recruiter. It’s Monday morning and you walk in your office, boot up your laptop and take the first sip of your extra-hot grande latte as you begin reading through the morning’s 320 plus e-mails eager candidates and over-worked hiring manager’s sent this weekend. Message #1: Great cover letter. Attached: 25-page resume for a candidate with 5 years of experience. Delete. (true story) Message #2: Brief e-mail. No cover letter (no good). Killer resume. You sip more delicious latte as you read with a focused, results-heavy resume. Definite yes. Message #3: Concise cover letter and a link to the resume. You bite into your blueberry scone and click the link. 4 minutes later you’re more entertained than interested and have other things to do besides, you can’t forward it on because there’s too much potential for hiring bias. Delete. Skinny jeans and video resumes Video resumes are a popular trend, just like skinny jeans. They have a place and fit for some industries. For example, skinny jeans are great on hipsters, rockers and those that can strum the strings of a guitar. Video resumes are great for creative directors, photographers, graphic designers or web designers. Those professionals that are in the arts or creative professions are well suited to make their experience come to life in a video resume. Brand identity or crisis The bottom-line is you have to know your brand or any choice will come off as a brand crisis. Have your personal brand stand out in today’s job search market in a way that represents your authentic self and true identity. Creating a video resume as an actuarial would come off a bit like Donald Trump wearing skinny jeans; you might get a second look but not for the reasons you want. 9 Ways You Can Make Your Office Eco-Friendly The survival chances for mother Earth and its children are slim if we dont rethink our attitudes toward the sensitive world issue of environmental damage. Going eco-friendly isnt rocket science!  Your workspace can be entirely transformed with some minor lifestyle changes. Small changes taken in the right direction will make a big difference. We aren’t giving you a big, exhaustive list for this. Anyone can adapt to these changes for the health of the environment. 9 Ways You Can Make Your Office Eco-Friendly 1. Cut Down On Electricity and Water It sounds obvious, but there are  ways to do this that you probably havent even thought of. Of course, there are the more well-known ways to conserve energy, like using electricity and water cautiously, switching off the lights when you leave the room, not leaving the tap running when not in use, and installing energy saving equipment. But there are other ways you can cut down too! You could install rain shut-off devices, use standby mode on electronic outputs such as Xerox machines and copiers, and install a conservation mode software on all the computers for when theyre on standby. Lastly, replace your light bulbs with CFL bulbs, which are energy-efficient and durable than a regular bulb. 2. Reduce Use of Paper This may seem like an impractical approach since the use of paper is pretty much necessary in an office, but you don’t need to go completely paperless (but you totally can, just check out our article on how to create a paperless office!). Just use the minimum amount of paper. Buy unbleached or chlorine-free paper, use recycled ink cartridges, and avoid unnecessary packaging. 3. Consume Eco-Friendly Food Products Encourage consumption of organic and local products in the office. These products are easy on the environment and your health (though not always your wallet), so it’s pretty much a win-win situation. Next time you order food for an office meeting, try ordering from places that use eco-friendly and renewable resources. 4. Proper Disposal of Office Supplies Office supplies such as stationery, documents, food utensils are essential for the workplace, sure, but buy reusable supplies or dispose of them properly after use. Use recycling bins (we know, duh, but most people forget they exist) and make sure to actually separate the waste into the correct bins. 5. Use Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products Nowadays, many green cleaning brands are available that are non-toxic in nature. Try to encourage your cleaning company/custodial team to use these products instead of conventional cleaning solutions, which  often cause pollution as chemical waste. I know, I know, Well, yeah, of course, or, None of my coworkers live near me, or, Public transportation is a pain. But this will help the environment, improve your health (especially if you walk or bike), and save you a ton of money. There are even rideshare companies nowadays that are devoted to office carpooling, like van shares. If your coworkers all pay collectively its even cheaper! 7. Casual Dress Code This is not permitted in every office, but if you can, then go casual (or at least business-casual). Suits and formal wear produce a lot of heat, which causes us to have the air conditioner on  constantly. They also increase the need for dry cleaning, which harms the environment and your finances. Next time you argue for casual Friday, tell your boss its for the environment! 8. Install Green Plants You can go green literally by doing this. Plants absorb the pollutants in the air and provide fresh oxygen for you to breathe. Place plants wherever possible at your workplace. It will  improve your offices design, mood, and help boost a healthy environment. 9. Install Portable AC Use portable air conditioning systems for the employees who need it then and there. This reduces the amount of electrical energy that is wasted from central cooling systems. Why have the AC run in empty boardrooms and offices? These are small and simple steps by which you can do wonders for the environment. All we need to do is play our part in making our environment eco-friendly, and the results will show.
